- Megamouth Shark is one of the rarest and most mysterious shark species in the world. The Megamouth Shark was first discovered in 1976. Since then, only a few hundred specimens have been documented. It is a large, soft-bodied shark with a distinctive appearance that sets it apart from most other species. It typically measures between 4 to 5 meters (13 to 16 feet) in length, though some individuals can grow up to 7 meters (23 feet), and it can weigh as much as 1,200 kilograms (2,600 pounds). Its most notable feature is its massive, bulbous head and an extremely wide mouth, which contains numerous small, hooked teeth arranged in rows. The shark’s body has a flabby texture and is dark brown to greyish-black on the back, with a lighter, contrasting underside. Its dorsal fins are relatively small and rounded, appearing undersized compared to its large body.
